Orange County is home to VCI’s largest volunteer programs. Whether you want to mentor a child, support a homebound senior, or share your love of reading with preschool students, there is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you right in your community.

AmeriCorps Seniors Senior Companion Program — Orange County

VCI’s Senior Companion Program serves homebound older adults throughout Orange County including Orlando, Apopka, Winter Park, Ocoee, and surrounding communities. Senior Companions provide friendly visits, help with daily tasks, and transportation to appointments — helping seniors stay in their own homes longer.

Volunteers must be 55 or older and meet income eligibility guidelines to receive a tax-free hourly stipend, transportation reimbursement, and accident and liability insurance.

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program — Orange County

Foster Grandparent volunteers serve in schools, Head Start centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, and daycare centers throughout Orange County. They provide one-on-one mentoring and tutoring to children who benefit from a caring, consistent adult presence.

Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours per week and receive a tax-free hourly stipend, meal allowances, transportation reimbursement, and an annual physical. Must be 55 or older and meet income eligibility guidelines.

OTTER Program — Orange County

The OTTER (Older Teachers Teaching Early Readers) program places volunteers in Head Start and early learning centers throughout Orange County, where they read aloud to children ages 3 to 5 and help build foundational literacy skills. OTTER is open to community volunteers 18 and older of all income levels. No stipend is provided for this program, which is funded by the Orange County Citizens’ Commission for Children.
