Serve as a friend and companion to older neighbors making sure they can live in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Senior Companion program focuses on providing assistance and friendship to older adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. Through this program, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers keep seniors independent longer and provide respite to family caregivers. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers themselves report better health and longevity having served their community.

NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!

We are looking for Senior Companion Volunteers to help other Seniors who need rides through the Reliable Independent Drivers for the Elderly (RIDE) partnership with Jewish Family Services. This program provides round-trip rides for low-income seniors and disabled adults to medical, grocery, and essential appointments.

To volunteer for this program:
  • You must have a reliable car, good driving record and a consistent weekly schedule to help out.
  • Be 55 or older.
  • Qualify to be a Senior Companion Volunteer and complete training.
  • All eligible volunteers will receive a monthly stipend for your time and mileage reimbursement.

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) Volunteer Opportunities

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week in locations such as schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, daycare centers, Head Start centers, or virtually from home. Each volunteer completes a pre-service orientation and training. Once volunteers are approved and meet certain income guidelines, they will also receive a small stipend for the time they volunteer.

OTTER  (Older Teachers Teaching Early Readers) Volunteer Opportunities

Using Scholastic’s REAL: Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead, the Whole Book Approach, and Visual Thinking Strategies curriculum, our new OTTER program will offer volunteer opportunities to people over the age of 18, who wish to read to young pre-K students and instill in them a lifetime love of reading, by helping to instill literacy skills that will help young students succeed academically.

OTTER is looking for volunteers between the age of 16-54 who wish to share their love of reading and books with young children.We will provide an early intervention/prevention approach to literacy for this initiative, by engaging volunteers in pre-K and Early Head Start centers as well as virtual teleconferencing options.
OTTER PROGRAMMONTHLY STIPEND AVAILABLE!
OTTER is looking for volunteers over the age of 55 who wish to share their love of reading and books with young children.
OTTER volunteers (ages 55+) were trained in child development, cultural consciousness, early childhood literacy, reading aloud techniques, and utilized preschool curriculums such as ELLM (Early Learning Literacy Model from the University of North Florida) or Scholastic’s Big Day for Pre-K. Originally OTTER was designed as a subset of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program using AmeriCorps Seniors FGP Volunteers to deliver the OTTER curriculum.
