AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) Volunteer Opportunities

AmeriCorps Seniors FGP volunteers must be at least 55 years old

AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week in locations such as schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, daycare centers, Head Start centers, or virtually from home. Each volunteer completes a pre-service orientation and training. Once volunteers are approved and meet certain income guidelines, they will also receive a small stipend for the time they volunteer.

My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Volunteer Opportunities

My Brother’s Keeper volunteers must be at least 18 years old

MBK is interested in recruiting adult men (aged 18 and above) of color, who can serve as a positive role model and mentor a boy or young man of color. Research shows that the collective work of community leaders, members, and public and private agencies pursuing the same goals for boys and young men of color can lead to sustainable, place-based change. If you are an adult who is interested in improving the lives of boys, please consider volunteering your time to help us mentor boys to achieve academic success and graduate high school ready to pursue a college education or a career training program.

MBK’s work is rooted in six key life milestones that research shows are especially predictive of later success, and where interventions can have the greatest impact.

  4. Completing post-secondary education or career training programs
  5. Successfully entering the workforce
  6. Keeping kids on track and giving them second chances

GOAL  (Girls Overcoming, Achieving, and Learning) Volunteer Opportunities

GOAL volunteers must be at least 18 years old

In collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council, VCI’s GOAL program will focus on creating Girl Scout Troops in low-income neighborhoods in Orange County. GOAL volunteers are expected to hold weekly Girl Scout meetings consisting of age-appropriate activities for their Girl Scouts. These activities will allow girls to become more confident, increase their knowledge of problem-solving and life skills, and develop healthy relationships with their peers. If you are a woman over the age of 18 who wishes to volunteer as a mentor, or an assistant troop leader in order to help us prepare girls for future success then please see below.

OTTER  (Older Teachers Teaching Early Readers) Volunteer Opportunities

OTTER volunteers must be at least 16 years old

Using Scholastic’s REAL: Read, Excel, Achieve, Lead, the Whole Book Approach, and Visual Thinking Strategies curriculum, our new OTTER program will offer volunteer opportunities to people over the age of 16, who wish to read to young pre-K students and instill in them a lifetime love of reading, by helping to instill literacy skills that will help young students succeed academically.

OTTER is looking for volunteers between the age of 16-54 who wish to share their love of reading and books with young children.We will provide an early intervention/prevention approach to literacy for this initiative, by engaging volunteers in pre-K and Early Head Start centers as well as virtual teleconferencing options (due to the COVID pandemic).

OTTER is looking for volunteers over the age of 55 who wish to share their love of reading and books with young children.
OTTER volunteers (ages 55+) were trained in child development, cultural consciousness, early childhood literacy, reading aloud techniques, and utilized preschool curriculums such as ELLM (Early Learning Literacy Model from the University of North Florida) or Scholastic’s Big Day for Pre-K. Originally OTTER was designed as a subset of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program using AmeriCorps Seniors FGP Volunteers to deliver the OTTER curriculum.

Virtual History Storyteller (must be 55 or older)

Volunteers must be 55 or older.

StoryCorps is a non-profit with a platform to help people preserve stories and personal history for all to enjoy and learn from. Volunteers for Community Impact is looking for Virtual Storytellers who want to share such a story. The story will be audio recorded and facilitated by an interviewer who will ask questions to help guide the conversation.

Volunteers can tell one or more stories. Each story will be a separate recording. Storytellers must be enrolled under the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Program, live in Seminole, Osceola, and Orange County in Florida, willing to create an account on StoryCorps and be 55 or older. Once enrolled, all questions can be directed to your AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Coordinator.
