Volunteers for Community Impact (VCI) has been around for over 50 years in Central Florida. Through AmeriCorps Seniors Programs, Foster Grandparent Program and Senior Companion Program, and our reading program, OTTER (Older Teachers Teaching Early Readers), we reach people who need support the most. Both our clients and volunteers benefit from our mission.
VCI’s Mission is “Improving Lives Through Volunteerism” and we accomplish this by:
- Helping seniors stay independent in their own homes
- Giving companionship to seniors
- Bringing seniors back into the community by volunteering
- Supporting seniors through stipend volunteering
- Expanding children’s imaginations through reading
- Mentoring children in the classroom to succeed
- Supporting those who need it the most
When you become a board member for VCI, you will be apart of mission that has the potential to do so much more and we need your help.
Our board member’s commitment to VCI is important and we look for members who:
- Understand and support Volunteers for Community Impact, Incorporated’s (VCI’s) mission, goals, policies and programs.
- Nominate “potential” board members who could make significant contributions to the work of the board and the progress of VCI.
- Attend activities and events sponsored by VCI.
- Regularly attend and participate in monthly board meeting and committee meetings as scheduled. Serve on at least one board committee.
- Maintain the confidentiality of VCI’s information.
- Suggest agenda items for board and committee meetings to ensure that significant policy related matters are addressed.
- Serve VCI as a whole rather than any special interest group or constituency, representing VCI in a positive and professional manner.
- Have a programmatic understanding of VCI services, program constituents, and the service impact to the community
- Never accept (or offer) favors or gifts from (or to) individual staff or anyone who does business with VCI.
- Review and understand VCI’s financial statements. Actively assist the board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibility. Be responsible in all financial matters.
- Make an annual contribution to VCI according to your personal ability.
- Actively participate, with your time, money, and personal influence with others, in VCI’s fund raising events, programs and activities.
